Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many negative and challenging changes to our current way of life, one positive to come from the world being in lockdown is the reduction in CO2 emissions.

At GK Electrical Contractors we work closely with many sustainable energy providers; seeing the first-hand benefits that energy efficient technology can have on our lives and the environment.

This time last year The National Geographic reported that carbon dioxide levels were at a record high; with carbon dioxide being responsible for about 3 quarters of emissions and lingering in the atmosphere for thousands of years.

A huge contributor to C02 emissions is the use of vehicles in our day-to-day lives. With COVID-19 causing global lockdowns and a huge reduction in traffic, it is no surprise that there have been the largest every annual fall in CO2 emissions as a result. Previous Carbon Brief analysis showed that the pandemic had temporarily cut CO2 emissions in China by 25%, with emissions still below normal more than two months after the country entered lockdown. Such dramatic falls in CO2 emissions demonstrate more than ever how important sustainable transport is for the planet.

Approved installer of Electric Vehicle charging points

GK Electrical Contractors is a Approved installer of Rolec EV; a leading supplier of Electrical Vehicles charging points. Plug-in electric vehicles (also known as electric cars or EVs) can reduce emissions and save you money.  EVs can also reduce the emissions that contribute to climate change, improving public health and reducing ecological damage as a result. By charging your EV on renewable energy such as solar or wind, minimizes these emissions even more.

As well as supporting and installing EV charging units, we also like to support a more sustainable future by working on housing projects which are environmentally friendly.

We recently completed our 30th project with Danwood; ‘one of the most prominent producers of prefabricated, timber-frame constructions in Europe, offering its customers stylish, energy-efficient homes with the option of a full turnkey construction service.’

One of Danwood’s sites that we have been working on is Graven Hill. Located in Bicester, Oxfordshire, ‘Graven Hill is the largest self-build scheme in the UK offering many self-build opportunities and a fast-track planning application process’. Houses combine the advantages of building on a ready-made site with a built-in infrastructure, with a stylish, energy-efficient timber-frame house. All homes have energy-saving technology and are truly the homes of a more sustainable tomorrow.

But creating a more energy efficient world doesn’t have to be on such a grand scale. Many changes can be made in commercial and domestic buildings that can reduce CO2 emissions and more.
