Managing risk is a crucial part of our role as professional electricians. We work closely with builders to ensure electrical wiring in new builds or refurbishment projects are installed safely.
Part of ensuring project safety is about planning and management and this involves good communication being maintained onsite between our electricians and other trades.
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has comprehensive guidelines to safe working practices that all electricians must adhere to. HSE guidelines include: “…advice on safe working practices for managers and supervisors who control or influence the design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, maintenance or operation of electrical equipment.”
Collaboration between electricians & trades for project success
When we work on a project, we ensure a risk assessment is carried out and correct procedures in place to ensure the safety of our electricians and all trades on site.
Ongoing communication with the site managers and supervisors is essential, with written details of specific risk-assessments per job so that all rules are adhered to.
On smaller projects this may mean actions such as switching off electricity through to ensuring isolation and never working on live equipment. Safety principles will be put in place depending on the complexity of the electrical systems.
